We all love books which have strong emotions bound to every word in it. Might be happiness, sadness, anger, passion , regret etc…….
I for one love books which give me a good cry. If you’re not crying at 4 AM, you’re doing it wrong. So grab some tissues and start scrolling because I’ve rounded up 15 books that will remind you why waterproof mascara was invented:
1. THE FAULT IN OUR STARS – John Green

THE book for you if you love young teenage love stories with 2 million cups of emotion. Would recommend this book for teens , but never mind because no one is too old for young love. It is the story of a girl named Hazel Grace Lanchester who suffers from a lung ailment. She falls in love with Augustus Waters whom she meets at a group at church, shows the meaning of love. But what if the boy you love is about to die? What would you do? Read this book to see what Hazel Grace does.
2. ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES – Jennifer Niven

Also called as, ‘ The next Fault in our Stars‘, this book touched my heart greatly and shows that even though the life of your loved ones end, yours will continue. Violet is devastated after her sister’s death. She meets Finch [who doesn’t want to live] on the school bell tower. As Finch’s world shrinks , Violet’s grows , as she learns to live from a boy who wants to die.
3. MY SISTER’S KEEPER – Jodi Picoult

Another heart wrenching story which I loved. Its a story about a girl who was given birth to for a reason which is for her to be the bone marrow bank for her sister. One day she refuses to do so and files a case against her parents. As the mother battles through, trying to keep one daughter alive and trying to get the other daughter to help her, a disaster strikes.
4. I’LL GIVE YOU THE SUN – Jandy Nelson

I love love love this book soooooooooooo much. Its a book that tells the story of two twins who are the exact opposites of each other. Noah and Jude were very close to each other until something happened. Now they’re barely talking to each other.
5. TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD – Harper Lee

To Kill a Mockingbird is an essential, heart-wrenching classic. Told through the eyes of young children in 1930s Alabama, a black man is accused of raping a white woman, and the underlying prejudices of the time makes his sentence all but certain.
6. THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER – Stefhen Chbosky

This coming-of-age tale holds almost nothing back as it starts off with a suicide and goes from there. Centered around the sensitivity of a brilliant, but troubled, teen named Charlie, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is an honest and adult-themed story that will likely resonate with your own experiences.
7. THE BOOK THIEF – Marcus Zusac

Let’s put it this way: Death itself is the narrator. The story is about a young girl named Liesel who has to live with foster parents during the height of World War II. On the way to her new home, her brother dies, setting the somber tone for the story. There is hope, however, when Liesel discovers her love for reading and forges a relationship with a young Jewish man she helps hide from the Nazis.
8. A CHILD CALLED ‘IT’ – Dave Pelzer

Easily one of the saddest stories of abuse in recent decades, A Child Called It is based on the true story of Dave Pelzer, a boy from California who suffered at the hands of his sadistic family. The tears will come from both sadness and the inspiration tied to Dave’s fight for survival in an environment where he is deemed worthless.
9. LOOKING FOR ALASKA – John Green

Before -Miles “Pudge” Halter is done with his safe life at home. His whole life has been one big non-event, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave “the Great Perhaps” even more (Francois Rabelais, poet). He heads off to the sometimes crazy and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe. Because down the hall is Alaska Young. The gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed up, and utterly fascinating Alaska Young. She is an event unto herself. She pulls Pudge into her world, launches him into the Great Perhaps, and steals his heart. Then. . . . something happens
After – Nothing is ever the same ………
10. THE SKY IS EVERYWHERE – Jandy Nelson

Adrift after her sister Bailey’s sudden death, Lennie finds herself torn between quiet, seductive Toby—Bailey’s boyfriend who shares her grief—and Joe, the new boy in town who bursts with life and musical genius. Each offers Lennie something she desperately needs… though she knows if the two of them collide her whole world will explode.
11. THIRTEEN REASONS WHY – Jay Asher

A heart breaking book which I personally enjoyed a lot. Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a strange package with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers several cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker–his classmate and crush–who committed suicide two weeks earlier. Hannah’s voice tells him that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he’ll find out why.
12. IF I STAY – Gayle Forman

When Mia loses her family in a car accident that barely spares her life, she must decide between fighting and letting go. It’s a heartachingly beautiful book about the power of love, the true meaning of family, and the choices we make.
13. I WAS HERE – Gayle Forman

Cody’s on a journey to find out why her best friend Meg decided to end her life, but what she’ll discover is that you can never truly know what’s in someone’s heart.
14. The Impossible Knife of Memory – Laurie Halse Anderson

Ever since Haley’s father came back from Iraq, the pair has been on the run from the demons that still haunt him. Finally, they’ve returned to his hometown, but is this truly the chance at a normal life Haley’s been missing?
15. MOSQUITOLAND – David Arnold

When Mim Malone learns that her mom is sick, she sets off on a thousand mile journey to get back home. Hilarious and heartbreaking, this book is the road trip your heart’s been missing.
